My Dear Holy Congregation,

Due to circumstances outside of my control, as I have discussed with Malka, and of critical importance, I will not be able to teach our class this coming Thursday. I will miss studying with you. However, I wish you a wonderful time at pre-class and look forward to spending Shabbat with you.

With blessings,

Rabbi Royi Shaffin

Statement On Today's Tragic Events

Today marks a tragedy for the Jewish people and for the spirit of freedom, democracy and tolerance in the United States. Today's tragedy in Pittsburgh reminds us of the dangers of antisemitism and intolerance. It makes us aware that we must remain vigilant in our struggle to remain a free and open society. It also strengthens our resolve to secure our Jewish communal institutions.

We are greatly saddened by the loss of life and bless those families in mourning with consolation from God among the mourners for Zion and Jerusalem. We are also eternally grateful to all of the security and law enforcement officials for their bravery in protecting the synagogue and its worshippers. May those injured be healed speedily with refu'a shleima (a complete recovery).

CNN has called this the deadliest attack ever on the American Jewish community. May God instill love into the hearts of those who hate and bring healing and hope to shattered hearts and to our mourning community.

- Rabbi Royi Shaffin
